Postby nakittina on Sun May 23, 2010 5:24 pm

Hey everyone!! I have a 2008 Rx-8, and it completely lacks an aux input.. Does anyone know if there is a diy, without soldering preferably, or an easy way for a newb..

Thanx~ Kitti ^w^

There is a DIY, but not one that either simple or without soldering. To make it work you have to take the whole radio and center console apart and solder some wires into one of the circuit boards. Doesn't look overly difficult, but might be a little much if you are not pretty comfortable working on electronics. PM me if you want a link and I can dig it up pretty quickly. If you are going to do it there is something else that you should hit with the solder gun while you have everything apart (the potentiometer connected to the Heat/Cold temp knob). I believe the Metra Kit can give you an aux in as well, but I am not sure. Someone with that kit will be along shortly and they can let you know.

I have the metra kit. That kit is used for an Aftermarket head unit. Not just an AUX port. Well not that I know of atleast.

If your looking to hook up an ipod there are a few other solutions but as Solidtrance said for just a AUX your gunna have to do some soldering. or yo could just buy a head unit with an AUX thats what i did in my old truck.

yeah, thats one of those wtf things i did when i bought my 8...if your car audio savvy i would say get a new DD head unit, especially if you have the factory Bose sound system, as long as you get a decent head unit it will make it sound that much better.

I was happy with the sound in the car, I just wanted a good solution for intergrating my Ipod. After a bunch of research I added a Harman Kardon Drive+Plav V1.

Overview: The Drive+Play iPod control system allows you to integrate a dock connector equipped iPod with any car stereo. Any iPod with a dock connector can be controlled by the system. The system includes a hide away brain, a controller knob, and a display.

Brain: The brain can be mounted nearly anywhere in the car, it doesn't need to be accessible so it can be under a seat, in the glove compartment, in the console, etc. An FM modulator is built into the brain that can be used wirelessly, or it can be wired to the tuner using an adapter plugged into the 3.5mm antenna output jack. The FM transmission can be set to any frequency from 88.1 to 107.9 MHz. The brain has a 3.5mm stereo mini-jack line output for connection to your radio's auxiliary input. There is also 3.5mm stereo mini-jack line input for connecting an additional source.

Display: The display panel shows the same information, in the same way, as your iPod's display, only bigger. The display measures 2.6" diagonally and is backlit in blue. There are three threaded inserts on the back for mounting the display base, and the base has a ball and socket joint so the display can be mounted at a wide variety of angles. All the iPod controls are on the control knob, so the display panel doesn't have to be within reach.

Control Knob: The control knob mimics the functionality of your iPod's click wheel, it has a dial that turns both clockwise and counterclockwise and five buttons in the same positions as the menu, forward, backward, play/pause, and select buttons on the iPod. The idea behind the design is that you'll be able to reach for the control knob and make changes without taking your eyes off the road. The control knob also gives you complete control over the iPod (just like the controls on the iPod). The knob's ring is backlit in blue so it's easily found in the dark.
